Twitter spam; will it ever end?

Twitter Spam

Ever since twitter gained popularity in 2006, it has attracted a significant amount of spammers each with their own promoting interests. From government grants, debt reduction services, to the usual weight reduction and penile enhancement pills.

Most spammers do this by setting up automated accounts, follow spamming legit users which is an act of following as much users as they can in hopes of getting followed back, not because they’re interested in the user’s tweets, but rather to gain attention, views and if they’re lucky, URL clicks

The situation is not something to be taken lightly. Most users, especially who are new to this social networking site, are pretty susceptible to these scams as they will usually automatically follow back for the sake of being polite. While most spam tweets are only a nuisance to the end user, some cause more harm than anticipated by tricking unsuspecting users into clicking a URL whch sometimes would end up in phishing sites or drive-by-download pages.

Twitter has taken up measures in fighting this plague, but with limited success. It is still up to the end user to use their better judgement as to determine wheter a person is a spammer or not.

Appropriate comments are very much welcome.

Everything is Amazing, Nobody is Happy

We complain when things go horribly wrong, –and I’ve done my fair share of complaining– when they don’t work the way we want them to. We blame it on design flaws, bad programming, or sometimes we just make an entity out of nowhere so that we can have someone/something to blame.

From the looks if it, technology, although it really does make things easier and people more productive, it makes us more and more frustrated than the people back in the days of rotary phones and black-and-white televisions.

Aside from the fact that it has been more difficult to please people despite of how fast technology is evolving, our patience for things grows smaller and smaller. There’s always that desire for instant gratification with as little effort as possible and more complaining.

We all probably have even the slightest idea of how simple and primitive people lived life back then, but they were happy. We should even be happier now that advancements in technology have made life more convenient. If we only look at it at a different perspective (i.e. think of how it would be like without them), it could just save us from the frustrations that would eventually make life ever so crappy.

Thoughts About the New Zune HD

White Zune HD

Microsoft announced its latest iteration of the Zune line last May 26, the Zune HD. It’s got 3.3-inch, 480 x 272 OLED capacitive touchscreen display, built-in HD Radio receiver, HD output through a proprietary dock, and the ability to integrate into Xbox and Xbox live so we should see some gaming potentials for this device. Not much about the Zune has been disclosed by Microsoft as of now as they’re currently saving it for E3. According to the company, at E3 “attendees will see first-hand how Zune integrates into Xbox LIVE creating a game-changing entertainment experience”.

The zune HD’s features doesn’t come short of what’s out there; wifi connectivity, a modified Internet Explorer optimised for multitouch functionality, and a 16:9 widescreen display

Based on the specs and features, it seems like this is going to be Microsoft’s response to the growing popularity of the iPod touch. Some have even claimed that this will have the potential to beat the touch’s ever growing sales. But as of now, the only thing that’s sets the two apart is that one has mainstream application support while the other doesn’t. So unless Microsoft comes up with a decent app store and vast developer support, I doubt that it would have substantial sales over the year let alone beat iPod touch sales. And on top of that, if you compare a device that has all the bells and whistles and one that has less, yet has the ability to install apps, most people would go for the latter since it is open to newer features. Bottomline is, Microsoft should stop making beefed up devices, go back to basics such as stability and ergonomics, open it up to developers, and they might just see a large chunk of the market share.

What do you think about the new Zune HD? Feel free to comment :D

A different version of “Hello World”

I’ve read a quote from somewhere that you’re technically homeless on the internet if you don’t have your own personal blog. Sure you may have a handful of profiles on twitter, plurk, myspace, facebook, youtube etc, but wouldn’t it be nice to have those linked to your very own personal nook?
So a year ago I started to make my own blog on lockergnome which can be found here. I’ve made it look like this way mainly because I love tech and I always love how black and green combine to create that “neony” look which I’ve always loved for its vivid and contrasting colors.
It’s not yet 100% complete. it’s still a work in progress so if there may be any glitches or mistakes, I’m sorry for the inconvenience.
And also thanks to Jared for the unlimited hosting.. :)
Anyway, feel free to post relevant comments and tips below, on how I can improve the page. cheers! :D
